Delhi: At present, lanes on the extreme right on any road are considered as disaster management lanes. According to the law, motorists are required to make way for an emergency vehicle on hearing the siren. However, that rarely happens because of the traffic chaos that reigns in the city. \r\nIn view of the current circumstances, the Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, before retiring next February, has directed the traffic police to get going with a project that would ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles providing emergency services. For strict implementation, Bassi wants ‘hard shoulders’ instead of emergency corridors, which would be separated from the rest of the road merely by paint marks. |
