Rawalpindi: Emergency medicine, an emerging new discipline of medicine, is now very well established in the developed world, though in Pakistan this important specialty has not been given due attention and it has not been recognised and introduced at any of the public sector hospitals across the country so far.
The specialty is being neglected by the federal and the provincial governments despite the fact that a major share of emergency services are being dealt at the government-run public sector tertiary care hospitals. Also a number of health experts have, time and again, expressed to ‘The News’ that the healthcare system in Pakistan lacks up to the mark emergency medical services and there is a need to train health experts in the field of emergency medicine particularly because of increasing terrorists activities in all provinces of the country. |
