The government adopted September 12 an upgraded evacuation program for municipalities in the event of a nuclear accident at Kyushu Electric Power Co.’s Sendai nuclear plant in Kagoshima Prefecture. \r\nBased on the program, approved by the Nuclear Emergency Preparedness Council, local municipalities will draw up respective evacuation plans detailing specific steps. \r\nThe program came after local municipalities within 30 kilometers of nuclear plants called for state support as they need to draw up evacuation plans based on guidelines from the Nuclear Regulation Authority. |
