Burma (Myanmar): Highway Police to Get First-Aid Training |
The Myanmar Red Cross Society has offered to train police officers along the Yangon-Mandalay Highway in first aid as part of efforts to reduce the number of road deaths on the notoriously perilous road. The training will begin as soon as the proposal receives approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Daw Ni Ni Moe, manager of the Myanmar Red Cross Society’s ambulance service in Nay Pyi Taw, said the goal was to “preserve and save lives before accident victims arrive at the hospital”.

Burma (Myanmar): MRCS to Cooperate with ARC in Disaster Risk Reduction |
Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) will team up with the American Red Cross (ARC) to carry out natural disaster risk reduction measures, according to the signing ceremony for scaling up disaster risk reduction measures in Myanmar held on September 11.
The two associations will carry out not only natural disaster risk reduction tasks but also the projects like disaster preparedness, disaster management, emergency response and organizational development in support of the strategic aims of the MRCS. |

Burma (Myanmar): Emergency Services Ready for SEA Games - Hotline Number Setup |
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) – a combination service of emergency ambulance and urgent medical care – will be enhanced in strategic locations during the SEA games, said Dr ZawWaiSoe of the orthopedics and traumatology department at Yangon General Hospital.
The ministry has equipped 86 ambulances and trained 1500 doctors, nurses and volunteers in EMS services in anticipation of the event. The system is being tested this month to ensure it operates smoothly before the games begin on December 11. Full-time service will begin on December 1.

Burma (Myanmar): Myanmar Vows to Protect Aid Workers from Violence |
Yangon: Myanmar vowed on April 09 to protect UN and humanitarian aid workers seeking to return to the strife-torn state of Rakhine after rampaging Buddhist mobs attacked the workers' homes and offices.
State-run media also said on April 09 the government would expose those who orchestrated and joined last month's rioting.
Myanmar has come under mounting international pressure to restore life-saving aid in the state, which is home to around 1.3 million Rohingya Muslims, who the UN considers one of the most persecuted religious minorities in the world. |
