	Taipei: A new rule requiring medical rescue teams to arrive at accident scenes at amusement parks within four to six minutes will come into force Nov. 15, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.\r\nThe rule, which aims to ensure sufficient medical resources and prevent heavier casualties in future catastrophes, was introduced in the wake of an explosion at the Formosa Fun Coast (八仙樂園) water park earlier this year, when the amusement park operators were heavily criticized for their disorganized rescue measures.

	Taiwan: Kinmen County to Have Emergency Medical Aircraft
	The Kinmen County government has obtained an annual subsidy of NT$12.6 million (US$374,109) from the central government to station an emergency medical rescue aircraft in the county, Kinmen County Commissioner Chen Fu-hai (陳福海) said.\r\nThe project could save lives by getting patients urgently in need of care to facilities on Taiwan proper that can provide the necessary treatment.

	Taiwan: People Abusing Emergency Hotlines to Face Detention. Law Passed to Impose Penalty on Abuser
	Lawmakers on 13 May passed an amendment to the Social Order Maintenance Act (社會秩序維護法) to allow penalties against people who abuse emergency hotlines.\r\nThe amendment says that people who call police hotlines without a legitimate reason and persist in doing so after receiving a warning may be detained for up to 3 days or fined up to NT$12,000. The amendment covers the 110 emergency hotline as well as the hotlines used by each police precinct across the nation.

	Taiwan: Taiwan and Japan to Sign Emergency Dispatch Pact
	Taiwan and Japan will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to allow both countries to dispatch physicians and assistance systems to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, should large-scale emergency situations occur, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has announced.\r\nAccording to Shen Wen-chiang, deputy director-general of MOFA\'s Department of NGO International Affairs, both parties will sign the MOU at MOFA\'s headquarters in Taipei on Tuesday afternoon. It is titled, \"Asia-Pacific Region Joint Emergency Response Measures.\"

	Taiwan: Central Emergency Operation Center on Full Alert as Megi Nears
	Taipei: Taiwan launched its Central Emergency Operation Center and put it on full alert September 26 with Typhoon Megi bearing down on Taiwan and expected to pummel the island on September 27.\r\nPremier Lin Chuan was at the center to listen to briefings by relevant authorities on their preparations against the typhoon, and he expressed concern about possible landslides caused by heavy downpours.
