Taiwan: Cross-Strait marine rescue drill held
Fuzhou: Both sides of the Taiwan Strait sent marine search and rescue personnel and fleets for a joint drill on 07 August, the first such exercise to be held in open waters in the north of the Strait. The drill was carried out in response to an emergency scenario in which a passenger liner collides with a cargo ship, leaving 5 people missing and 10 passengers injured. More than 550 rescuers, 33 vessels and 4 helicopters were mobilized for the drill. Taiwan: Foundation Raises Problem of Patients Kept Waiting in ER
Hospitals prefer to treat patients with minor conditions or those needing expensive surgeries, a foundation for health reform said. It is estimated that more than 3,700 people with first-degree injuries each year are stuck in emergency units for 2 days before they are transferred to inpatient beds in hospitals, the Taiwan Health Reform Foundation said on April 15. Taiwan: Researchers Develop Test Strips for Pesticide Poisoning
Taiwanese researchers have developed two test strips distinguishing the kind and dosage of pesticide in poisoned patients within several minutes, helping physicians to treat them more swiftly.\r\nCheng Chao-min, assistant professor in nano-engineering and microsystems at National Tsing Hua University, said on Tuesday(June 23) that the test strips were made for organophosphate and carbamate poisoning, the two most common forms of pesticide poisoning in the nation.

Taiwan: Emergency Aid Network Needs Upgrading, Ko says

Taiwan: Taipei Publishes SOP for Flood Management
Taipei: The Taipei City government on Tuesday(July 28) unveiled standard operating procedures (SOP) to prepare for and respond to floods and storms.\r\nThe city also released maps of flood-prone areas and said it will inform ward chiefs and local residents when water levels rise to warning levels, according to the city\'s Fire Department.The SOPs unveiled were divided into three phases: preparedness before heavy rainfall, the emergency response amid heavy rains, and restoration following floods.
