	Words fall short in describing the magnitude of the calamity that devastated a major part of the Visayas. Supertyphoon Yolanda was assessed by meteorologists as a Category 5 typhoon, with one-minute sustained winds of 325 kilometers per hour (195 miles per hour), making it the strongest tropical cyclone ever to make landfall. 	Philippines: Disaster Rescue Training Should be in Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)
	Manila: Muntinlupa City Rep. Rodolfo Biazon is pushing to include disaster rescue, relief, and rehabilitation in the curriculum of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in colleges and universities. Biazon, chairman of the House defense committee, also wants to make ROTC mandatory again for students of state universities and colleges. Biazon said there is a need to expand the pool of non-commissioned officers who can engage in calamity relief and rehab work in times of disasters. He wants the AFP to come up with ROTC training that will focus on emergency work, instead of just the usual marches for which the ROTC is known.

	Quezon City: With “volunteerism” becoming a buzzword for 2013 mainly due to the devastation brought about by Typhoon Yolanda, the government once again emphasizes the need to recognize community heroes and their efforts not only in emergency response but in nation-building as well. The national awardees for the Individual Category are Arvin O. Marabiles and Demetrio P. 	Philippines: Davao City's 911 gets 10 New Ambulances
	Davo City: Central 911 got an early Christmas gift from the City Government with the turnover of 10 brand new ambulances during the opening of Pasko Fiesta celebration at the Rizal Park on December 09 Monday. In an interview, Central 911 head Emmanuel Jaldon told reporters that these ambulances are equipped with pre-hospital care equipment, and will be deployed to 911’s 3 satellite stations in Panacan, Calinan, and Toril. But Jaldon has yet to determine as to how many units that each of the satellite station will get, but added it will depend on the demand for better and quicker emergency response in their area of responsibility. &ldq

	Philippines: Bigger Budget for Ambulances
	Cebu City: The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has asked the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) to increase its allocation for the operation of ambulances in Cebu’s provincial and district hospitals. PB member Jude Durano-Sybico said he received complaints from his constituents in Cebu’s 5th district that they were charged with P200 to P300 to pay for the use of an ambulance. IPHO head Cynthia Genesolango confirmed that district hospitals ask for fuel charges due to its limited funds.
