Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has made elaborate medical arrangements for pilgrims visiting the Kedarnath shrine, which reopened on May 04 Sunday. During last year's flash floods, the state-owned dispensary was severely damaged, because of which the health department decided to set up a make-shift medical camp. "At Sonprayag, the starting point of the yatra, we are conducting complete check-ups of the pilgrims before allowing them to go ahead," said health department director general GS Joshi.
Oxygen cylinders have been arranged at every 2 kilometres between Sonprayag and Kedarnath. "We have kept oxygen cylinders for pilgrims complaining of nausea, which is a common problem at high altitudes," he said. For the pilgrims needing medical attention and support en route, the state government has set up medical relief posts. "The force has been especially trained to provide medical help to the aged with the help of basic life support system," said Neetu Shah, joint director, health and program in charge of Kedarnath yatra. |
