Singapore: About 1,000 residents of Tampines Central attended the division's Emergency Preparedness Day, with some getting hands-on experience on what to do during an emergency.
The area's MP, Heng Swee Keat, who is also education minister, said it is important for neighbours to come together to form cohesive networks. He said emergencies can take many forms, whether it is fire, accidents or crime, and preparation may help to prevent some of them from happening.
At the annual event, residents tried their hand at putting out fires with an extinguisher and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Mr Heng urged residents to pick up basic skills, including first aid, and to work together as good neighbours to look out for one another. |
