Kathmandu: Government officials, civil society members and experts from SAARC [South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation] countries have assembled in the capital to discuss on how the SAARC member countries work collectively for disaster risk reduction and management across the South Asian region.
During the seventeenth SAARC summit held in the Maldives in November, 2011, head of states the SAARC member countries had endorsed the SAARC Comprehensive Framework on Disaster Management and SAARC Agreement on Rapid Response to Natural Disasters, which aims to develop a regional-level action plan on mitigating natural disasters in the region and an emergency response mechanism in case of any massive disaster outbreak in the SAARC region. |
