Surkhet: Tek Bahadur Oli, a resident of Shantitole, Latikoili, was shocked to hear the response of an ambulance driver of the Regional Hospital, in Surkhet, February 13 night.
When he made a call seeking emergency service to take his seriously ill kin to a nearby health facility, the driver refused saying it was night and it was not too far for him to take the patient to the hospital himself.
The locals complain that though there are around a dozen ambulances, including governmental and non-governmental ones in the district, their services are not reliable. They charge exorbitantly, and if the drivers are not interested, they make excuses.
Oli said, “Ambulances have now become a means of earning money unfairly, it is no more a service.” |
