Mumbai: The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has asked the Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police to locate ‘hotspots’ on the highways, where specialised ambulances can be stationed for emergency accident cases. This move comes as a consequence of the many lives that have been lost in the last few months due to lack of emergency medical response units.
However, a big concern is whether these sanctioned 937 ambulances aimed at providing help in the ‘golden hour’ in emergency cases for a single patient at a time, will be sufficient where more than one road accident victim is battling for his/her life.
When asked, director of Health Services, Dr Satish Pawar said, “There are accident-prone spots and black spots on the highways. So, we have asked the traffic police to help us in locating hotspots where an ambulance will be needed. We cannot afford to have a separate allocation of ambulances for the highway traffic police. Time will tell if we require more ambulances.” |
