The first of Chinese rescue and medical team has left for the typhoon-stricken Philippines. The crew is from the Red Cross Society of China, and will be deployed in the city of Tacloban, which was hit the hardest, to help survivors.
17 aid workers from China’s Red Cross are setting off for the Philippines to help typhoon survivors. They are the country's first emergency team to join the international assistance efforts.“We’ve been in contact with the Philippine Red Cross since the day the typhoon struck to get permission to help. We received official confirmation yesterday afternoon, and organized the team immediately. The Chinese government has also provided help in applying for the visas and delivering our medical equipment.” Wang Haijing, vice chairman of China Red Cross, said.
The medical team will land in the central city of Cebu. They will spend one night there and then head to the worst-hit city, Tacloban. |
