A nationwide organization of cardiovascular specialists asked the Metro Manila Development Authority on September 26 Thursday to pass a measure requiring government and private offices to have their own defibrillator machines in the workplace. In a meeting with MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino in Makati City, Philippine Heart Association President Dr. Eugene Reyes said densely populated office buildings in the National Capital Region, including sports complex and barangay halls, should have an automated external defibrillator.
AED is a portable, battery-operated device used to resuscitate persons suffering from cardiac arrest.
“AEDs are handy during emergency situations. Every building should have one, particularly those with high density population. It really saves lives,” Reyes said, adding that the proper use of such medical devices is taught in many first aid and basic life support classes. |
