Guwahati: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 24 formally launched 100 new Mrityunjoy-108 ambulances and 100 dolees for augmenting referral services in inaccessible areas of the State. The new ‘Tata Sumo’ ambulances are smaller in size so as to enable easy movement along narrow roads and rugged terrain. The dolees are meant for carrying patients from areas which lack motorable roads.
Addressing the media during the launch, the Health Minister said that the innovations in the form of the smaller ambulances and the dolees would supplement the existing Mrityunjoy emergency service. “It is difficult for the bigger ambulances to reach up to patients staying in difficult terrain such as hills, which lack proper roads. Now the Tata Sumo ambulances will address this drawback, and the dolees will ensure that patients are carried to the ambulances even if there is no motorable road at all,” Sarma said. |
