New Delhi: In a first, the city is all set to get 11 quick response vehicles, each worth Rs 40-45 lakh, to be stationed in each of its 11 districts. The vehicle is a modified Toyota Innova that will contain equipment worth Rs 35 lakh: including a life detection machine, inflatable light, diamond chainsaw, water mist system, oxygen cylinder and mask and stretchers. The idea to have QRVs was floated a year ago, however, the official launch of the vehicle is scheduled for mid-August. It will be done by newly-appointed lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung along with chief minister Sheila Dikshit. In case of an emergency, these vehicles can be called on dialing the DDMA helpline number, 1077.
Dharam Pal, chief of Delhi Disaster Management Authority, said the vehicle will come as major boost. "They will act as first respondents to any disaster like fire, building collapse or earthquake. Because of its compact size, it will be able to reach narrow and congested lanes where a fire tender could not enter," Pal said. |
