Highway users may soon be able to call a 4-digit toll free number in case of an accident or emergency and expect immediate assistance.
The ministry of road transport and highways is planning a call centre, which will alert the control centre of the respective highway section on receiving any call. Currently, the 4-digit universal access number, 1033, is functional only for a stretch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad of NH8 (Mumbai-Delhi national highway). Officials manning the call centre said the number was made operational in January. |
