A majority of the 108 Ambulances available in The Nilgiris district were unsafe to use, according to the staff of the service. Krishnakumar, a staff of the service, told The Hindu here on 9 March that there were now 18 ambulances in the district. Except eight small vehicles, the rest were not road worthy.He was among the staff who came to the Collectorate to submit a memorandum to the District Collector.
Despite being aware of the condition of the vehicles, the drivers and other staff were using them to take patients even to Coimbatore, which was about 100km away. |
