India: KarimulHaq, Man to get Padmashree Award for using Bike as Ambulance


Jalpaiguri (WB): Ever since he watched his mother die after failing to go to a hospital in the absence of an ambulance, 52-year-old KarimulHaq in Jalpaiguri district’s Malbazar sub-division has used his motorcycle to take patients to medical facilities.\r\nA resident of Krantir village and a tea garden worker, his noble efforts have been rewarded by the Union government as he has been chosen for a Padmashree award this year, Malbazar bloc sub-divisional officer Jyotirmoy Tanti said.

India: Subroto Das, Man behind Unified Helpline Number on Highway Gets Padma Shri


Ahmedabad: In August 1999, Vadodara-based doctor Subroto Das’s car hit a tree beside a highway in the dead of the night, leaving three persons injured. Bengaluru: The Karnataka Good Samaritan and Medical Professional (Protection & Regulation during Emergency Situations) Bill, 2016, aims to facilitate the fundamental right of access to emergency care and treatment for injured persons, which is a key aspect of the right to life. In the absence of an efficient Emergency Medical Services system in India, bystanders can play a crucial role in providing assistance to victims within the first one hour. India: BEST Staff Trained for Giving Emergency Medical Service


Mumbai: Around 100 staffers from Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) of BEST were trained for emergency medical services to help commuters or staffers in case of emergencies. The training was conducted at Colaba on 2 February.\r\nThe staffers were trained for Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) service which involves chest compression with artificial ventilation in order to help people during emergencies.

India: Emergency response system for industries on the cards


Visakhapatnam: Director of Factories G Bala Kishore on 7 February said that the government was planning to establish Industries Emergency Response Systems (IERS) across the State in the public private partnership (PPP) mode to prevent accidents.\r\nAdmitting that the number of accidents had come down drastically following a special drive launched in 2013 after the city witnessed several accidents in quick succession, he said that the first IERS would be started at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Parawada, about 50 km from here.
