India: Indian-American surgeon aims to save lives on Indian roads


An Indian-American surgeon is hoping to raise $25 million to train 1.5 million first responders - the first rescuers to arrive at an accident scene - in five years to prevent over 1,000 deaths on Indian roads every day that cost the nation $50 billion annually.\r\nRajasthan University-educated surgeon Dr. Dinesh Vyas, an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at Michigan State University since 2011, has already trained over 4,000 first responders in India using a $200,000 simulator dummy.

India: First Aid Training Must for Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence Seekers from July


New Delhi: The government has decided to make training in first aid and basic life saving techniques mandatory for those applying for a heavy vehicle driving licence from July next year. The move is aimed at making drivers the first responders and trauma care providers to victims of road accidents.\r\nA heavy vehicle driving licence will be issued only after the applicant completes the certified training, which will be organised jointly by the road transport and highways ministry.

India: GMCH gets 10 new ventilators, ambulance


Nagpur: Maharashtra medical education minister Vinod Tawde inaugurated an in-house ambulance at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) andten newly procured ventilators in the ICU of department of medicine on Tuesday, December 22. The minister also held an interaction with the students about any problems faced by them.

India: AIMS will Build New Trauma Centre at the Cost of Rs3000 crore


Ned Delhi: AIIMS has decided to expand it trauma services.  AIIMS has joined hands with national building construction corporation limited to build phase II trauma centre at the cost of Rs3000 crore. The Trauma centre will have 2250 bed spread over 15 Acre land.

India: Bihar to Set-UpSuper-Emergency Operation Centre for Disaster Management


Bihar government has decided to set up a super emergency operation centre armed with latest equipment and resources here and emergency operation centres in other districts of the state.\r\nPresiding over the review meeting of disaster management at the camp office at his official residence, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on December 27 directed officials in this regard. The proposed super emergency operation centre will be set up in the under-construction Police Bhawan and protocols will be laid down for functioning of the centre, the Chief Minister said.
