India: Kashmir's Rural Areas to get 800 GPS-Fitted Ambulances


Srinagar: Around 800 ambulances fitted with global positioning system (GPS) would be made available for patients in rural areas in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government said on January 12 Sunday. People in rural areas would only need to dial the toll-free number 102 to avail ambulance services fitted with GPS under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmad Khan said. The aim of the service was to provide timely health care during emergencies like accidents, with the focus on maternal and child health, he said.

India: AIIMS-Raipur to Start Short Course in Trauma Emergency Skills


Raipur: In a bid to train frontline healthcare providers, including police and firemen, to provide the correct medical assistance to victims in event of disasters, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur has designed a new course for Basic Trauma Emergency and Life Saving (BTELS) skills.  Talking to TOI, Dr Ram Chandani, said the 4-5 hour course is designed for saving the lives of victims in disaster situations, when resources are limited. India: GVK EMRI Launches 102 National Ambulance Service in UP


Hyderabad: City-based infra major GVK on January18 Saturday said its non-profit arm, GVK EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute), had launched the 102 National Ambulance Service in Uttar Pradesh. According to the company, GVK EMRI currently operates 988 ambulances under 108 emergency response service in Uttar Pradesh and it has also bagged the project of operating 2,000 more ambulances under 102 scheme, which is meant for the transportation of pregnant women and neonates to the hospital and also back to home after delivery.

India: State Moots Disaster Response Centres in Hazard Prone Dists


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is toying with the idea of setting up a State Emergency Response Centre for industrial and chemical disasters. At the State Crisis Group (SCG) meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra, here on January 18 Saturday, it was proposed that the centre could operate from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at Bhubaneswar which mainly deals with natural calamities. Bangalore: A model of 2-wheeler ambulance that the government is contemplating introducing in Bangalore was unveiled on January 19 Sunday by the Health Minister U.T. Khader when he came riding it to inaugurate the Pulse Polio immunisation drive at Ghousia Hospital here. The 2-wheeler ambulance has a first-aid kit using which the rider of the vehicle would provide needed medical care to the patient before shifting him/her to a four-wheeler ambulance.
