India: Health Min Suggests Guidelines for National Ambulance Code


New Delhi: In a bid to have a uniform design and nomenclature for all ambulances, the Health Ministry has suggested to retain design of National Ambulance Service under NRHM while formulating guidelines for National Ambulance Code.  In a letter to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Health Ministry has suggested that as the design and nomenclature of National Ambulance Service is already implemented by various states, it should be retained while framing ambulance designs under National Ambulance Code.  The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently formulated the NAC and is in the process of framing guidelines f

Bhubaneswar: The state government is planning to put in place a protocol to make the emergency ambulance service in Odisha more efficient. The steering committee on Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (OEMAS), under the chairmanship of health secretary P K Mohapatra, has proposed that the decision on the hospital where a patient needs to be shifted should be taken by the trained ambulance staff. Sources said the frequent attacks on ambulances and their forcible diversion to hospitals of attendants' choice had become a headache for the implementing authorities. India: Fix Private Ambulance Fares by Oct 31: HC to State


Mumbai:  Bombay high court has directed state government to ensure that fares of private ambulances are fixed by October 31, 2013 while hearing a public interest litigation saying indiscriminate fares were hurting the consumers. A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice M S Sanklecha on August 29, 2013 heard a PIL by Nainesh Dolas urging direction to the authorities to fix a fare/rates of the ambulance which are not covered under the Public Health Department or attached to government hospital under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

India: Odisha Emergency Medical Ambulance Services launched 108 Ambulance Service


The Government of Odisha intends to set up comprehensive pre-hospital emergency medical service with introduction of a fleet of ambulances to cover the entire State in a phased manner. The aim is to provide Emergency Ambulance Service free of cost to the people of Odisha. This will facilitate an integrated and comprehensive emergency health care management in the State providing high-end ambulance transportation system from the doorstep of the patient to the appropriate care in a hospital.
