United Arab Emirates: Dh161m Revamp of UAE's Busiest Emergency Unit Begins


A Dh161 million expansion of the UAE’s busiest accident and emergency department is under way. Rashid Hospital’s Trauma Centre, where about 166,000 patients were treated last year, is to be expanded to accommodate 160 more beds.Essa Al Maidoor, director general of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said construction has started at the centre, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is dedicated to treating emergency patients in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

United Arab Emirates: Paediatric First aid: Courses that Save Lives

It can be frightening when little ones hurt themselves, but help is at hand to make sure you know how to deal with the situation before professional help arrives. Paediatric first-aid courses teach parents and carers the basic principles of first response. “Knowledge of paediatric first aid and paediatric cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can save lives,” says Dr Rita Kovesdi, specialist Paediatrician, Health Bay Polyclinic in Dubai.

United Arab Emirates: RTA Inks Dubai Ambulance Services


The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed 2 cooperation agreements with the Directorate General of Civil Defence, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services regarding the development of areas served by the Dubai Tram through providing diverse ambulance and firefighting services and coping with accidents nearby the tramway and other areas in Dubai Emirate. The agreements were signed by Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of Rail Agency from the RTA; Brigadier Ahmed Obaid Al Sayegh, Assistant Director General for Fire and Rescue from the Directorate General of Civil Defence, and Khalifa Aldrai, Executive Director, Dubai Corporati

United Arab Emirates: Dubai Police join European Emergency Number Association


Dubai: Dubai Police have become a member of the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), after its participation in EENA’s latest conference held in Warsaw, Poland in April, a Dubai Police official said. Eena is a Brussels-based NGO set up in 1999 dedicated to promoting high-quality emergency services reached by the number 112 throughout the European Union. The Eena members include more than 1,000 emergency services representatives from over 70 countries world-wide, 70 solution providers, 15 international associations/organisations, 150 Members of the European Parliament and 60 researchers, according to Eena’s website.

United Arab Emirates: Dubai Ambulance Service Adds Ford Mustangs to Fleet


Dubai ambulance service took delivery of the newest additions to its fleet, two Ford Mustang cars which will be used by first responders to get to emergencies quicker. UAE news agency WAM reported that the cars will provide support to paramedic teams in delivering a rapid response service and will help in rescuing critical cases, especially in traffic accidents. A high-speed Lotus will be added to Dubai Ambulance Co-operation’s fleet in the coming days.
