China: Shanghai’s Would-Be Samaritans Welcome Legal Protection


Buried among the 66 clauses of the “Shanghai Municipal Regulations for First-Aid,” which was approved in July by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee, is the guarantee that those who carry out “on-the-spot emergency care will enjoy legal protection.” Even those who inadvertently cause harm to the injured party “will not bear any legal responsibility,” the regulations state. The new regulations appear to apply to all individuals, in contrast to an earlier draft that stated only those with medical training would benefit from legal protection.

China: Charity Group Launches Belt and Road First-Aid Project


The Chinese Red Cross Foundation (CRCF) Monday (20 February) launched a first-aid project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative in Beijing.\r\nThe project will offer first-aid resources, including ambulances and medical professionals, and public health services along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a 3,000-km network of roads, railways and pipelines linking Kashgar in northwest China\'s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and southwest Pakistan\'s Gwadar Port.

China: Childless Couples Get Extra Assistance, Free Emergency Assistance


Shanghai: Shanghai parents who lose their only child will now receive preferential healthcare and free emergency assistance, the government said yesterday. (2 March)\r\nThey can also call in domestic help and have medicine delivered 24 hours a day. Families who lose their child will also get free accident insurance. In China, parents normally rely on children to look after them in their old age.

China: Tongzhou Authorities Improve Services, will Build 15 First-Aid Stations


The Tongzhou authorities announced Friday (5 May) that they will build 15 first-aid stations in the district by the end of 2017 to deal with the shortage of emergency services in the Beijing suburb, which is being turned into an administrative center for the capital.At present, there are only 3 first-aid stations and 20 ambulances in Tongzhou. There are 110 medical workers in these stations.
