Thailand: Hundreds Practice Phuket Storm Surge Disaster Response


Phuket: Ambulance sirens wailed across Phuket on May 21 as their crews took part in an emergency exercise carried out by in the province along the Andaman Coast. The exercise was based on a scenario that involved a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal passing close and causing a storm surge along Thailand’s coastline. Local people, school children, officials, communications experts, rescue workers and heavy machinery operators combined to practice protecting the lives and property of both residents and tourists, and saving victims of the surge. Thailand: Erawan Center: Medical Teams on Stand-by After Martial Law Imposed


Bangkok: The Erawan Emergency Center made known that over 40 medical teams are on stand-by following the imposition of martial law.  The center said despite the announcement, both anti- and pro-government groups continue to stay put on Ratcha Damnoen Road and Utthayan Road. Medical personnel are set to continue treating the sick and injured at protest sites.  Forty medical teams consisting of professionals from over 48 hospitals and 8 medical foundations have been assigned to monitor the situation. Mobile medical and emergency units have also prepared to dispatch members to demonstration strongholds and other nearby areas.

Thailand: BMA to Set up Disaster Prevention Center, Northern Locals Warned of Flash Floods


Bangkok: In light of this month’s quake in the North, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is drafting a plan to establish a center to handle the disaster prevention and mitigation in the future. Bangkok Deputy Governor Pussadee Tamthai revealed that the center to be set up would particularly deal with management of evacuation routes in emergency cases.

Thailand: Chiang Mai Preparing for Possible Earthquakes by Holding Emergency Drills


Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai province is gearing up for possible earthquakes by conducting emergency drills. Chiang Mai Governor Suriya Prasatbandit chaired a meeting to prepare for the province's annual disaster drills with other relevant organizations in attendance. This year, the Chiang Mai Internal Security Operations Command has scheduled earthquake and emergency drills during 2 - 3 August at a cargo warehouse in the Chiang Mai International Airport and at the Sansai hospital.

Thailand: Department of Disease Control outlines emergency response to Coronavirus


Bangkok: The Department of Disease Control has outlined an emergency response to Coronavirus. The drilling consists of 3 phases: The first and second focuses on monitoring, investigation and detection at airports, infection prevention in hospitals and transferring patients to receive treatment at the right time. Meanwhile, the third phase emphasizes outbreak response and control in case of widespread outbreak.\r\nAnyone who has to go to the epidemic areas, especially the at risk groups including person with diabetes, chronic lung disease and kidney failure, should avoid contact with camels and drinking unpasteurized camel milk.
