Singapore: 177 MRT Track Intrusions since 2003 - Staff Trained to Handle Incidents


Singapore: A total of 177 track intrusions have been recorded on the MRT network since 2003, but all train station managers and staff have been trained to handle such incidents and are able to provide first aid, said Transport Parliamentary Secretary Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim in Parliament February 18. Associate Professor Faishal was responding to a question filed by opposition Member of Parliament Png Eng Huat about the protocols in place and the type of training given to MRT staff to handle non-fatal emergency rescue for track intrusions. Singapore: Ministry of Defence (MIndef) Equips Camps with More Defibrillators


The Ministry of Defence has purchased 1,900 more automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on top of "more than 1,000" it has already bought to equip its 30 military camps. Mindef revealed the figures on February 24 after it launched a drive to install defibrillators at Singapore Armed Forces camps last June. The new batch was bought earlier this month from Irish manufacturer HeartSine, which said in a statement: "Due to the increasing number of sudden cardiac arrest fatalities in army camps... Mindef sought to implement a comprehensive AED programme."

Singapore: Singapore Offers Changi Facility as ASEAN Disaster Response Centre


Honolulu: The Republic has offered its Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partners the use of its command and control centre in Changi to help coordinate responses to natural disasters, given the number of catastrophic events in the region over the past decade or so. Singapore: SCDF Full-Time National Servicemen to Get More Leadership Opportunities - Update on EMT Scheme


Singapore: Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) will be given more opportunities to take up leadership positions at frontline operations of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), said Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs MasagosZulkiflion April 17. Mr Masagos gave an update on the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) scheme launched last year. The scheme trains firefighters to attend to medical cases and provide medical intervention before the ambulance arrives. A new smartphone application alerts people trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to nearby cardiac arrest cases, and a map of all public automated external defibrillators (AED).
