Philippines: QC Elderly to Get P5,000 Emergency Medical Assistance


The Quezon City Council passed an ordinance granting a P5,000 emergency medical assistance for an elderly resident admitted in a city government-owned hospital.\r\nThe city council has recently passed City Ordinance 2598-2017, also known as “Quezon City Emergency Medical Benefit Assistance for Senior Citizens”, authored by Councilor Rogelio P. Juan.

Philippines: Emergency Lanes Approved by Metro Manila Council


Manila: The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has approved the designation of emergency lanes for fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles traversing designated lanes along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) and other major roads.\r\nIn two-way roads with Center Island, designated emergency lanes are nearest the center island. In two way roads with no Center Island – the lane nearest the Center Island and in one-way roads, the left most lanes are emergency lanes.

Philippines: Laughing Gas Making a Comeback as Painkiller in Ambulances


Stow, Vermont: Normally used in dentist’s offices and hospitals, nitrous oxide—yes, laughing gas—is starting to turn up again in ambulances in some rural areas where medical workers with clearance to provide more traditional painkillers often aren’t on board.\r\nIt gives advanced emergency medical technicians, who are a step down from higher-level paramedics, a way to help relieve patients’ pain and anxiety on what can sometimes be long trips to a hospital.

Philippines: Paramedic Training for Fire-fighters Eyed


The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is batting for the enactment of a House leader’s proposed bill that seeks to require fire stations to have fully trained paramedics on duty round-the-clock as part of a bold new strategy to reinforce the bureau as first responder not only to fire alarms, but also to other emergencies.\r\nIn a position paper, the BFP backed the approval of House Bill (HB) 5338, authored by Makati City Rep. Luis Campos Jr., which calls for the selective training of the country’s next generation of fire-fighters as certified paramedics, or emergency medical technicians (EMTs).

Qatar: Hospitals Asked to Put Anaesthetists on 24-hour Duty to Attend Emergency Cases


Doha: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has asked all private hospitals to put anaesthetists on duty round-the-clock to attend to emergency cases. All medical practitioners working in the emergency unit must obtain an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate. They are also required to submit a proof of it to the registration team at SCH. ACLS refers to a set of clinical interventions for urgent treatment of cardiac arrests, strokes and other life-threatening medical emergencies, as well as the knowledge and skills to deploy those interventions.
