Philippines: First Aid PH: Red Cross App for Emergency Preparedness


The Philippine Red Cross now has its own first aid and disaster preparedness application for smartphones and tablets. Called First Aid PH, the app provides information for handling a number of different situations, as well as preparedness tests for a variety of possible incidents. It also offers users a means of supporting the Philippine Red Cross, such as by giving donations.

Philippines: PCSO Delivers Ambulances to the North


On June 16 the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) donated 8 ambulances to towns and hospitals in northern Philippines under the auspices of the agency’s Ambulance Donation Program\r\nPCSO turned over brand-new ambulances to the municipalities of Banna and Currimao, Ilocos Norte; Santa Cruz, Sugpon, Santa Catalina and Santa, Ilocos Sur; Balaoan District Hospital, La Union; and City of Candon Hospital Ilocos Sur.

Philippines: First responders want Emergency Medical Services Bill to address bioterrorism


Manila: At a recent scientific congress at the University of Makati to celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week, first responders called on Congress to come up with an Emergency Medical Services Bill that would address not only common situations but also mass casualty incidents, such as bioterrorism and chemical warfare.\r\nDr Jeremy Cordero, MD, chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of the Ospital ng Makati, cited figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), noting that in 2015 there were 10,000 road deaths in the Philippines.

Philippines: Q2 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill all set


Manila: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) in collaboration with the Metro Manila DRRM Council will hold the second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 22 June 2016, 9 am. The on-site NDRRMC Operations Center will be established at the GHQ Grandstand, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, and Quezon City.\r\nThe second NSED shall delve in the evaluation of the on-site NDRRMC Operations Center based on the National Disaster Response Plan for Earthquakes and Tsunamis, the quadrants of Metro Manila in reference with OPLAN YAKAL including the interoperabil

Philippines: Disaster Drills Enhance Community Preparedness


San Jose: Regular conduct of disaster drills could enhance preparedness of students in schools and communities in general on what to do when disaster such as earthquake strikes.\r\nIn an earthquake drill conducted this morning at DepEd Division Office, the employees practiced duck, cover and hold then proceeded to a safe area fronting the office, said Richard V.
