City and prefectural governments hosted the exercises. Using the J-Alert emergency advisory system, local municipalities received information from central government, the same procedure used for natural disasters.

Japan: Small Ambulance Can more easily Rescue Hikers on Mount Takaosan


A new compact ambulance will be used on Mount Takaosan to better respond to a growing number of medical emergencies reported on the popular mountain in western Tokyo.\r\nThe 4-wheel-drive vehicle can run on hiking trails and travel from the bottom to the top of the 599-meter peak in 30 minutes. It can transport up to five ambulance workers.

Korea (North): DPRK Strives to Prevent Spread of Bird Flu VrusUnder Direction of State Emergency Anti-Epidemic Committee.


The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was striving to prevent the spread of bird flu virus H5N1, the official KCNA news agency reported on May 20 Monday. More than 1,360 veterinary epidemic control teams were working throughout the country to monitor poultry and the movement of wild birds, the KCNA said. Measures like providing intensive hygienic information to inhabitants, as well as quarantining fowl, duck, pigeon and other domestic poultry, had been taken, it said. Preventive measures against H7N9 virus had also been taken under the direction of the State Emergency Anti-epidemic Committee, it said.

Korea (North): Doctors Go On Strike in Protest of Gov't Policy


Seoul: Thousands of doctors staged a 1-day strike March 10 Monday in protest of the government's plan to introduce a new medical system, partly causing inconveniences to patients across the country. The massive walkout by doctors, the first of its kind in 14 years, involves medical clinics, and interns and resident physicians working in hospitals around the country.
