India: Unhappy with Services, Karnataka Govt to Snap Ties with 108 Ambulance Operator


Bengaluru: Karnataka\'s free ambulance service, 108 Arogya Kavacha, is set for a major makeover, with the government planning to replace the operator, augment the fleet, expand operations and address problems dogging the system.\r\nDissatisfied with GVK EMRI, the firm which runs the 108 ambulance service in Karnataka, the health and family welfare department has set January 31, 2018 as the last date for terminating the partnership. It\'s working on floating a fresh tender.

India: Avinashi Road to Soon Have an Exclusive Lane for Ambulance


Coimbatore: Rushing accident victims to hospitals within the golden hour is vital to save lives. For this purpose, the city traffic police have planned to carve out a lane exclusively for ambulance on Avinashi Road.\r\nCity police deputy Commissioner (traffic) Sujitkumar told TOI that he plans to introduce the system soon. Whenever an ambulance enters the lane on its way to a hospital with accident victims, other vehicles should leave way for the ambulance by moving to the adjacent lane.

India: Will Cut 108 Response Time


Guwahati: Dispur will add 300 more ambulances by next year under the 108 emergency services to reduce the response time from 31 minutes to 23 minutes.\r\nThis was revealed by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the launch of 95 new ambulances at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Tuesday (5 December). He announced the plans to add another 150 ambulances within two months and the same number by 2018 fiscal. He asked the officials of 108 ambulance services to constitute five-member groups in every village to resolve problems related to the service.

India: Dial Common Emergency Number 112 for Police Help in Punjab


Chandigarh: For police assistance, people in Punjab can dial a common emergency number \'112\', which was launched on 4 December on trial basis under the Centre\'s nationwide emergency response system (NERS) project.\r\nDesigned on the lines of 911 operational in the USA. Under the project, \'112\' will be the single common number for help during emergency situations. All other emergency numbers like 100 for police, 101 for fire brigade and 102 for ambulance will be replaced by the common number.

India: Two Green Corridors for Water Ambulance Patients


Varanasi: Two green corridors will be built in Benaras for immediate treatment of water ambulance patients. This has been agreed between the police, the NDRF and the Health Department. From the front ghat and the Assigital to the BHU Trauma Center and the Sir Sunderlal Hospital (BHU) will be the Green Corridor. NDRF will contact the police on arrival of the patient and the traffic will be diverted or stopped for a while on that route.
