India: SHRC asks Govt to Provide Ambulances to all Major Prisons


Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (JKSHRC) on 9 October directed the State government to provide ambulances in all major jails for shifting of inmates to hospitals in cases of emergency. The Commission passed the order after hearing the plight of a woman who claimed that her husband died in custody as he could not be taken to a hospital in time.\r\n\"It is directed that all major jails in the state be provided ambulances with escort on a permanent basis and this process shall be completed within a period of six months,\" SHRC chairman Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki said in an order issued on 9 October.

India: Get 24x7 Attendants at GMCH-32 Emergency


Chandigarh: In a bid to help more patients, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) 32 has started facilitation services in the emergency wards, especially at night. Those patients who find it tough to get test reports or are unable to get immediate care will be helped by volunteers posted 24x7 especially in emergency situations.

Indonesia: Japanese Disaster Alert Technology to be Exported to Indonesia


Disaster-plagued Indonesia will become the first Southeast Asian country to employ an advanced Japanese early warning system for earthquakes and tsunami. Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshitaka Shindo of Japan and Indonesian Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring signed a bilateral cooperation document on April 29 that would create a system based on Japan’s domestic emergency warning system. Manufacturers such as NTT Data Corp. and Hitachi Ltd. will join the project to help in the creation of the system.

Indonesia: Indonesia Proposes Easier Mobility For Disaster Mitigation Personnel


Bandar Seri Begawan: During the East Asia Summit held here on October, urged Asean member countries to ease the mobility of disaster mitigation personnel as part of emergency response facilitation in the region. "This will increase the mobility of emergency response personnel after a disaster. Leaders from other countries welcomed the proposal," Indonesia's Antara news agency quoted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Special Staff for the Economy and Development Affairs Firmanzah as saying here on October 24 Thursday.
