China: Shanghai to Enhance Emergency Care Efficienc


Shanghai: Shanghai will strengthen its management of pre-hospital emergency care and improve the efficiency of emergency work, according to the city's health department. Patients should be transferred to hospitals nearest to their homes and, when an ambulance arrives at a hospital; medical staff should complete the transition within 10 minutes, according to a regulation released by the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission earlier this month. China: Summer Injuries, Parents Imparted Training


Beijing: The incidence of accidental injuries for children is higher in the summer, the Beijing Times reports. Historically, the seasonal rise in pediatric injury cases in Beijing starts from July.  Statistics show that more than 26 percent of deaths in children are caused by accidental injuries, a number that is increasing by 7 to 10 percent every year.   The Beijing Emergency Medical Center recently invited 300 parents and children to learn about safety measures.

An injured couple waited more than 34 minutes for an ambulance July 16 Tuesday night due to confusion over which of the city's emergency dispatch services was responsible for sending it out. By the time the ambulance arrived at the hospital, the wife, 57, had died from her injuries. The incident reveals how human error can paralyze Shanghai's emergency dispatch system, which remains fractured in remote areas of the city despite plans to integrate the system city-wide. China: Patients Transferred to Lanzhou as Local Hospitals Packed


Lanzhou: With local hospitals in Gansu's quake-struck areas full to capacity, some of those injured in the shocks are being transferred to Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province, about 250 kilometers north of the epicenter. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Minxian County, the area hardest hit by the quake, is now packed with the wounded. China: China Launches Urgent Emergency Response to Heat Waves


High temperatures running over 35 degrees Celsius brought in by summer heat waves sweeping the country has prompted China Meteorological Administration to issue a level-two emergency response for the first time. The level-two emergency response covers provinces including east China's Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, central China's Hunan and Hubei, south China's Fujian, and Shanghai and Chongqing municipalities.  The response was launched after a second-level heat alert was issued for two consecutive days and will continue for the following 3 days, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.  The second-level h
