Shipping circles are now in fear of the possible strike of the cyclonic storm 'Mahasen', saying once the storm crosses Bangladesh; it will seriously affect the country's external trade. Top executives of the shipping firms said the storm warnings and precautionary measures will aggravate the existing cargo handling situation in the Chittagong Port - both at the port and outer anchorage.
Until the filing of this report at 8:00 pm on May 13 Monday, the Met Office advised the Chittagong Port to hoist local signal number-4.
The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) held a meeting with its major stakeholders on the day, asking them to stop operations at the port when danger signal number-5 will be hoisted. |
