Several emergency numbers will likely be merged into a single number so as to make the whole system more efficient in the wake of the ferry disaster in April.
Currently, there are 13 such numbers, including 119 (fire), 112 (crimes), 122 (accidents at sea) and 130 (drug-related).
When the Sewol sank, over 20 passengers called 119 to report the situation but no one dialed 122, leading to slow responses from the Korea Coast Guard. |
