Life-saver is backing Mercury Campaign to Encourage People to Learn First Aid Skills

Engineer Alan Warrington is more used to saving lives than to people helping him. But after volunteers came to his aid, he is now backing the Leicester Mercury and St John Ambulance campaign to encourage people to learn first aid.

Karl Hayes, a first aid volunteer at Barwell St John Ambulance, is also a community first responder who is trained to give emergency care until an ambulance arrives.

Pam Wood, district manager for St John Ambulance in Leicestershire, said: "Our volunteers play a key role delivering first aid at public events, teaching lifesaving skills to our young people and providing first aid training. “Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should e-mail: east-mids-volunteering @sja.org.uk
