Pune: In the absence of an emergency medical services (EMS) number at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), citizens who require an ambulance are forced to fall back on 101, the fire brigade number. While there are ambulances here, they are meant especially for victims of incidents of fire, and are anyhow in no shape to ferry patients.
“We receive almost 15 calls daily, asking for an ambulance, but due to a major staff crunch and with ambulances in dismal condition, we are forced to turn them down,” said Prashant Ranpise, (acting) chief fire officer, Pune. |
