Kathmandu: Owing to widespread public criticism over doctors’ protests which has resulted in a halt to medical services provided to general patients, the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has directed the hospitals to provide regular OPD services from emergency wards.
After the authorities failed to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging a hunger-strike against ‘anomalies’ at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), the NMA, on January 19, directed all hospitals to halt all services excluding emergency.
The ‘extreme’ form of protest which barred general public from receiving health treatments garnered extensive criticisms from all quarters of the society. Dubbing the protest ‘inhumane’ and against the ‘standards of work ethics’, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had on January 20 Monday urged NMA formally to resume health services. |
