Mumbai: Over 6,000 orthopedic experts recently gathered to deliberate upon the latest advancements, research and best practices in the field of spine care. The unavailability of pre-hospital care involving, evacuation, first aid at site, and transportation, has emerged as the major hiccups in spinal cord injury care.
Speaking at the event in Agra, Dr HS Chhabra, chief spine surgeon and medical director, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, said "Spinal cord injury is perhaps the most devastating ailment that can afflict an individual. Its management is very expensive as it requires a multi-disciplinary team, huge infrastructure, prolonged hospitalization and life-long follow up. Though the management of spinal injuries got revolutionized during the Second World War, India was quite late in setting up facilities for spinal injuries." |
