Disaster Rescue Training Should be in Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)

Manila: Muntinlupa City Rep. Rodolfo Biazon is pushing to include disaster rescue, relief, and rehabilitation in the curriculum of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in colleges and universities.

Biazon, chairman of the House defense committee, also wants to make ROTC mandatory again for students of state universities and colleges. Biazon said there is a need to expand the pool of non-commissioned officers who can engage in calamity relief and rehab work in times of disasters.

He wants the AFP to come up with ROTC training that will focus on emergency work, instead of just the usual marches for which the ROTC is known.
