Major Quake-Response Drill Held at Bullet Train Base

Settsu: Osaka Prefecture--In preparation for the ever-present threat of a powerful temblor disrupting Shinkansen service, more than 1,000 people participated in an emergency drill conducted Nov. 27 by Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) at its Torikai base for bullet trains here.

About 1,300 participants, including employees of the Nagoya-based railway company, were mobilized into action on the scenario that a Shinkansen had been struck by a powerful earthquake.

During the scheduled exercise, they trained in various activities, including how to evacuate passengers.
