Fortis to Train 5,000 Cabbies in West Bengal to Provide Life Support

Kolkata: The state transport department has tied up with Fortis Hospitals to provide basic life support skills to taxi drivers. Around 5,000 cab drivers will be trained in basic cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at Netaji Indoor Stadium on August 26.

Transport minister Madan Mitra said BLS trained cab drivers can help people in distress and will be critical for persons who have suffered a heart attack or stroke as the first hour, called golden hour, is extremely crucial for a patient's ultimate survival. "Basic CPR skills can help cabbies rescue a victim at times of emergency and thus play a role of responsible citizen," Mitra said.
