Lucknow: With the aim of reducing maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Uttar Pradesh, the health and family welfare department is working to launch a dedicated ambulance service. The ambulance network will comprise 1000 vehicles equipped to handle pregnancy related emergencies, including assisted child birth.The ambulance network will function on the pattern of 108 services.
A call centre will be the core of the facility that will be extended under the National Rural Health Mission through Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) schemes. Officials said the proposal was a part of state's project implementation (PIP) for 2013-13. Sources said 108 call centre may be used for the purpose.
