Joint Military Exercise for Disaster Response


Kathmandu: With a view to respond to disaster, a joint exercise between Nepal Army and US Army Pacific Command kicked off on September 9 Monday in Kathmandu.According to the NA Directorate of Public Relations, the joint exercise will be conducted for 3 days and involve rescue and relief of the huge number of victims in the event of disasters like earthquake, floods and landslides. According to a statement issued by the DPR, the joint exercise is a civil-military disaster preparedness and response initiative between the governmental and non-governmental agencies. There are around 100 participants in the exercise.

During the inauguration of the joint exercise, Major General Padam Bilash Karki of Nepal Army, Director of DGMT, said that the joint exercise will focus on civil-military integration, urban search and rescue techniques, engineering response, and medical assistance. The exercise will also evaluate emergency response procedures at Birendra Hospital and the Kathmandu-based TU Teaching Hospital and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Holding Unit at TIA.
