Railways to Set up Free Medical Assistance Centres at 5 Stations ? upload


Madurai: The Southern Railway is planning to establish free emergency medical assistance centres at five stations coming under the Madurai division. The centres to come up shortly, will be set up at Madurai, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli railway junctions. 

S Ram Prakash, chief medical director of Southern Railway announced this to media persons here on August 26 Monday. He was in Madurai to inaugurate the outpatient facility at the Railway Hospital which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Prakash said the centres are already functioning in Chennai, Salem, while one more would be inaugurated in Trichy soon. "The railways will offer space for private hospitals free of cost to establish these centres and they have to provide free medical assistance for passengers in case of emergency. Each centre will have a doctor with two paramedical staff. The private hospital management will also be asked to deploy an ambulance round-the-clock," he said. When private ambulance is not available, the railways will seek the help of 108 ambulance services, officials said. Speaking about the OP block, Prakash said the building will have all necessary facilities for the railway employees and the retired staff to get treated.
