Ambulances without Facilities Operating in Panchthar

Phidim: Ambulances are needed to aid critical patients so that they can be provided basic facilities till they reach the hospital. But sadly, ambulances in Panchthar district lack even first-aid facility.

The Ambulance Operation Act 2060 says vehicles carrying patients should be equipped with basic treatment facilities. There are 12 ambulances operating in the district that belong to 10 health facilities, but not a single ambulance is equipped with the mandatory facilities, stakeholders said. As per rules, even ‘’C’’ class emergency vehicles should have first-aid gear, oxygen cylinder, blood pressure monitor, and trained manpower who can look after patients during emergency. The rule also requires drivers to be trained in first-aid treatment.
