Varanasi: The much awaited trauma centre at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) district hospital remains to be a distant dream for denizens as the state faces shortage of neurologists and neurosurgeons along with the availability of other health staff.
It was expected that the trauma centre would start providing health services from 2011 onwards proving to be a milestone for providing emergency services to critical patients of East UP region.
According to chief medical superintendent (CMS), district hospital, Dr Mangla Singh, there is an acute shortage of neurosurgeons and neurologists in the state. "In fact, there are no neurosurgeons in UP and we require at least 4 of them. On the other hand, 4 cardiologists, 4 neurologists, 4 anesthesiologists along with 72 health staff are also required to start the trauma centre," he informed.
