Malls, Theatres Unprepared for Medical Emergency

Chennai: The recent suicide of an IT professional in the city and the events that followed it had brought several issues to light, including lack of medical facilities in malls, cinema theatres and amusement parks. A reality check by DC at most of the shopping complexes and malls revealed that malls are not equipped with proper facilities to manage medical emergencies.

According to an urban development expert, who did not want to be named, it is not that only malls need medical facilities, like doctor and a team of paramedics with an ambulance, but all buildings where public congregate. The fire and rescue services department should look into this aspect before giving approval to these malls.
