Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque on June 18 Tuesday inaugurated beds and equipment for setting up Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at district hospitals in a move “to take sophisticated healthcare to grassroots”. He unveiled 50 beds, ventilators and necessary ICU equipment at the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) for the distribution at 50 district hospitals.
“I know this is not enough, but it’s a beginning,” he said, adding once Dhaka Medical College Hospital was the only hope for emergency patients, over the years many hospitals were established across the country.
“We don’t want to see patients dying on the way to Dhaka,” he said, pointing out that many patients with head injuries, stroke, heart attack and severe wounds died on the way while being transferred to a hospital with ICU facilities. “Now they will get the ICU facilities at their district,” he said. |
