WFP, NDMA Initiate Project for Poor, Disaster-hit People


 Multan: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on June 14 Friday laid foundation of a warehouse to preserve and dispense food stuffs and lifesaving drugs in Rush Khan Purr village, Muzaffargarh district. Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority, representatives of donor governments from Japan and Canada attended a ground breaking ceremony to inaugurate the project. Jean-Luc Sib lot, representative and country director, WF Pakistan, Major General Mohammad Salem, Chairman NDMA, Jason Tulk, first secretary (development) of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA); Naoaki Kamoshida, Counselor/Head of Economic and Development Section, Embassy of Japan were present on the occasion. Jason Tulk said the project was part of capacity building for emergency response for NDMA and PDMAs in strategic locations to accommodate the humanitarian need. “We have built district warehouses as part of large Disaster Management Programme”, he said.
