Mumbai: The collision between a luxury bus and a tanker on Wednesday, which claimed 14 lives, at Kasa on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway has once again highlighted the urgent need for emergency medical services in the state.
"The state should think on the lines of equipping existing hospitals near accident-prone spots on highways since setting up new trauma centres may not be feasible," said Dr Paresh Navalkar, director of Life Supporters Institute of Health Science.
Public health minister Suresh Shetty said told TOI that a concrete plan has been chalked out to address the deficiency in emergency medical services. "We are coming up with multiple trauma care units near areas with bad accident records. Around 53 new primary and civil hospitals are coming up and the idea is to improve patient hospital ratio," he said. |
